Information Regarding TK-6th Graders Returning to School

SCVi shade structure in play area behind school building

Dear Families,

We are excited for the opportunity to welcome your child onto campus for in-person learning on a hybrid schedule.

Survey

We need to know if you would like your child to attend their hybrid instructional days in-person at school. The deadline for the TK-5th grade survey has passed. For 6th grade families, please complete the Grade 6 Return to School Survey no later than Thursday, March 4.

Because we can only have small stable cohorts on campus, your child’s cohort days may change. We appreciate your flexibility as we all work together to provide the safest and most engaging learning environment for all learners. Fridays will remain asynchronous (distance learning) for all learners.

All learners will continue to participate in Morning Meeting each day, Monday through Friday, from 8:45-9:15 AM. When not on campus, learners will participate from home virtually.

Once we have all survey responses, you will receive a separate confirmation email identifying your child’s cohort assignment as well as confirmed start dates for your child’s grade level. We anticipate starting a new grade level each week.

As we begin our return to campus, school hours for grades TK-6 will be from 8:45-12:15.

*At this time, we are not offering before- or after-school care.

Learners may check in no earlier than 8:20 AM and must be picked up by 12:30 PM.

This letter contains a lot of information about our reopening. Please take the time now to read and understand all the protocols and expectations. The protocols and notifications in this letter are in accordance with the County of Los Angeles Department of Public Health Guidelines.

Bus Transportation Update

Due to COVID restrictions, bus transportation is currently not a cost-effective option for our families. If your family chooses the on-campus hybrid program, you will need to provide your own transportation. Should guidelines change, we will reconsider providing bus transportation.

Prior to leaving your home each day

Please log on to the ParentSquare app at parentsquare.com/signin or download the ParentSquare mobile app. Once you are logged in, click on “Submit Daily Screening.” You will see the daily self-screening form to fill out. This is a state requirement, and you will be asked at valet if the form was submitted.

If you can answer yes to any of the following questions, please call our school office prior to leaving home at (661) 705-4820. If any of the symptoms or a diagnosis occurs within 14 days of your child being on campus, please contact our school office with that information.

In the last 48 hours, has your child had any of the following symptoms?

In the last 14 days, has your child been in close contact with anyone who has exhibited any of the following symptoms?

Learner Arrival

Please ensure your child has a clean face covering they can comfortably wear while on campus daily. The school day will begin at 8:45 AM.

Learner drop-off will take place in a valet drive-thru behind the Lower School campus. Please refer to the map below.

Please have your child’s name and facilitator’s name in large print displayed in the front windshield of your vehicle.

All adults are to remain in their vehicles. A staff member will greet you and ask if you have done a wellness check before coming to school. The staff member will also take your child’s temperature as your child exits your vehicle. Once your child’s temperature is taken, you will be able to drive your vehicle through the valet line and your child will be escorted by school staff to first wash their hands and then enter directly into their classroom. Please anticipate turning right once you exit the school lot to ensure we do not cause cross traffic with the Starbucks drive-thru. We appreciate your participation to ensure a smooth and safe morning drop-off each day.

Drop-Off & Pick-Up Map

Dismissal

At dismissal at 12:15 PM, learners will meet families at the same location as listed above. Adults must remain in the car at all times. Please have your child’s name and facilitator’s name in large print displayed in the front windshield of your vehicle.

Snack

Please send your learner to school with a snack in a lunch box with their name on it. Snack for break time  and lunch to take home at the end of the day will also be provided for learners that would like it from our school cafe. Our school breakfast varies from low-sugar muffins to burritos and is accompanied with milk and fruit. Due to COVID-19, this meal program will be free for the remainder of the school year.

Backpacks, Toys & Supplies

Please keep all personal toys at home.  Each learner will have their own supply bin at school with their name on it for them to use. We will fill up their bin with a variety of school items. Please anticipate further guidance and details from your child’s facilitator should they request other materials be brought to school as well.

Immunizations

Your learner’s immunizations will need to be up to date prior to them returning to in-person school. If you have any questions regarding immunizations, please call our office or email our school nurse, Ms. Carolina, at carolina.jimenez@scvi-k12.org.

 Access to Campus

Only learners and staff will be permitted in classrooms and to move about campus. Parents/guardians who have business with the office must call the office to schedule before coming in. To the greatest extent possible, business will be conducted outside at the front door of the admin office. All visitors two years of age and older must wear a face covering over their mouth and nose.

Please review the following expectations for learners while on campus. We do realize that these expectations may be difficult for some of our youngest learners; however, these are requirements from the LA County Health Department that must be adhered to in order for learners to be on site.

(Learners’ masks should be clearly identified with their names or initials, to avoid confusion or swapping. Their masks may also be labeled to indicate top/bottom and front/back.)

Illness at School

Should a learner become ill at school, the following protocols will take place:

Learner Small Cohort Groups

SCVi is following all guidelines from the LA County Department of Public Health. With the most current information being, learners will remain in a small stable cohort  while on campus. A cohort is simply a small social bubble and a mechanism for keeping interactions with others low. Each learner’s cohort will consist of  approximately 1/2  of their classmates; this number is based on the number of students that can safely social distance in a classroom space  and up to two classroom staff here at SCVi.

The SCVi website has information and resources about COVID-19, school protocols, and more.

School Expectations

Please have regular conversations with your child so they understand that returning to school will be fun and new for all learners and that there will also be health and safety guidelines that will be very important to follow. It is important that all children understand why we are wearing masks, keeping social distance from each other, and washing our hands for 20 seconds. We are doing it to protect ourselves and others so we all stay healthy and can come to school to learn and have fun with friends. All expectations will be explained and practiced with their class.

If you have not yet completed this survey, please complete: K-5th Hybrid Return to On-Campus Learning Survey no later than Friday, February 19.

Thank you for partnering with us to keep your child and our staff healthy and safe. We know it will take a few days to adapt to the new routine. Please email our leadership team: Mrs. Padovich, Ms. Roffredo and/or Mrs. Toval with any questions.

Please be certain to check your emails regularly, as we will be sending the most current information as quickly as we can. We look forward to seeing our learners on campus and hearing laughs and giggles in the classroom and out on the yard.

Sincerely,

The SCVi Leadership Team
