SCVi facilitator Sofia Varon was born in the UK to two Italian parents and raised in a small family having just one brother. In her early working life, she had a variety of different job roles, including hairdresser, gel nail technician, flight attendant, and vacation rep. It was during her time as a vacation rep that she became fascinated by how children learn, and believed education both inside and outside of the classroom is a fundamental part of life.
She decided to search for a more rewarding role in which she could make a difference, and attended the University of Hertfordshire in North London, where she received her bachelor’s degree in primary education, specializing in modern foreign languages and religious education. After graduating, she worked as a teacher in England before spending one year traveling. She moved to the U.S. in December 2017 and began working for iLEAD Encino, which she really enjoyed. She is now in her fourth year of teaching and is excited to be working with learners here at SCVi.
Outside of school, she enjoys attending concerts, listening to music and singing, cooking, theatre, playing sports, and spending time with friends and family. She believes in taking risks, taking opportunities, and living life to the full. She began traveling at age 15, and since then has visited over 30 countries. She absolutely loves meeting new people and finding out about different countries and cultures. She is grateful to have been a part of a positive change in the British education system during her last three years of teaching, and she is even more excited to be a part of helping to change and improve education in the U.S. with iLEAD.
