Dr. Jacob Cohen, Chief Engineer, NASA Ames, will be visiting SCVi this Thursday to launch the iLEAD Space Program through the Students Spaceflight Experiments Project. Dr. Cohen will be at SCVi to share with our community about the frontier of space exploration and the development of science fiction into reality. His presentation will be given Thursday, February 18, at 1:45 p.m. Learners will be able to participate in a question-and-answer session with Dr. Cohen.
Dr. Cohen’s visit kicks off an iLEAD-wide opportunity to develop an experiment that will be part of Mission 10 to the International Space Station. This is a competition that is open to all iLEAD 5th-12th grade learners, and one experiment is guaranteed to be selected for implementation by ISS scientists. Any 5th-12th grader can make their own proposal.
We recommend that your family watch Dr. Cohen’s TED Talk as well as the YouTube videos below to familiarize your learner with the program, the International Space Station, and the challenges of space exploration. All learners K-8 are invited to participate in a mission patch design competition that will be held going forward. We invite interested parents to attend Dr. Cohen’s presentation Thursday at 1:45 p.m.
