One of the reasons why SCVi has chosen to offer the IB Diploma Program is because of the way that its philosophy aligns with our own. Both SCVi and the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) value and encourage critical thinking. Through the Theory of Knowledge course, which is a core element of the diploma, learners are continually learning to question assumptions and challenge their ways of thinking. While it is an academic course, and learners are pushed to encounter new topics and processes of thinking, like SCVi, the IB cares about more than just learner results.

Diploma learners participate in Creativity, Action, and Service (CAS) activities that are also part of the core curriculum. The IB Juniors have just begun their Theory of Knowledge journey and looked at how to embrace and implement the CAS learning objectives. We are introducing a number of activities for learners, including a moonlight hike in a national park, and there is also our Puerto Rico “Backpacks Full of Hope” initiative, which is fully aligned with the IB CAS program.
